Dear readers,
I'm taking a moment today to thank everyone involved in air conditioning. I appreciate everyone involved whether you invented it, modified it, install or service it. And, let's not forget everyone who keeps the power flowing to during the summer months.
I wish there was a way to stay cool without throwing KWh's at it, and soon we may find one. I have to say that having lived with and without "aircon" in tropical climates, there is nothing like the feel of conditioned air when it's 33C outside. The only thing that made lack of aircon tolerable was the ocean.
So, here's to those who are going to work long hours to keep me cool this summer!
Blue skies,

I now live in Vancouver WA (no not that other Vancouver BC)
and I must say that i only run the ac about 1 week per summer. I am origanly form Atlanta (HOTLANTA) and I find it just does not get hot here... we do hit 100 about once a year for about a week or 2 but without the humidity I am accustomed to it is easy here.!!!! I am concerned about rolling my house over to the Puron now..... it will cost a but load to do it
Ah AC. I grow up without it at home and in school (showing my age!) and than we didn't miss it as we didn't know differently. Plus homes and schools were built differently with lots of windows (screens), shade and use of cross ventilation to catch breezes. Once conditioned to AC though there was no turning back! AC rocks.

Sam ~ I enjoy air conditioning to a degree. If it is hot outside, I don't appreciate having to put on layers of clothing when I get inside because someone has to have the A/C on 40 degrees cooler than it is outside. For me, if it was just 10 degrees cooler, that would be fine by me.
My last house didn't have A/C and we suffered all summer long. My new house has central A/C but we hardly use it because the house is in the woods and doesn't really get hot.
Can I just say Amen, Dawn! I don't like to be hot, but I don't like to be cold either. I always carry a light jacket or sweater into public places for just that reason.
One last thing: I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those people responsible for the heated seats in my Jeep.
You must have had an especially hot day, Sam! I liked your 'thank you.'
Sam, I'm in total agreement with you on this one! Air conditioning guys are my heroes, especially on hot, muggy days like this one.
Thanks for everyone's nice comments. Our electric bill doubled between April and May, so this must be the season. Stay cool!
I've always wondered why heating is called heating, but cooling is called air conditioning. Don't both of the condition the air? LOL
